We're now in the thick of the home study! We are still working on getting stuff done on our side before we can schedule the home study interview with our social worker. It can definitely be overwhelming looking at the list of everything that needs to get done, but we are steadily making progress!
What do we have to do?
Paperwork: We've got our list of documents that we are working on getting together, including things like driver's licenses, tax returns, and proof of health insurance.
Training: There are around 10 hours of training that we are working through. There is a lot of information about ways to prepare for the placement of the child, trauma education, common post-placement problems, travel, and more.
Background Checks and Evaluations: It's important that agencies thoroughly vet parents that they work with. So, a big reason why the home study takes a couple months is due to waiting on various background checks to process.
Autobiographies: The home study also gives Lifeline an opportunity to really get to know us individually and as a couple. Right now we are working through answering questions about things like our childhoods, families, marriage, faith, and everything in between.
Applying for Grants: Although most adoption grants won't accept applicants before their home study is finalized, we can start filling out the applications so that they are ready to go as soon as we are through with the home study!
Fundraising: Our next agency payment is due at the completion of the home study. If you are feeling led to donate or would like to see our fundraising progress you can visit our gofundme page!
