Our Story
Why we believe in Adoption
"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, 4 even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love 5 he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, 8 which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight 9 making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ 10 as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth." (Eph. 1:3-10).
There are many passages in the Bible that speak about adoption, but the above verse is especially beautiful as it directly ties together Adoption (v.5), Redemption (v.7), and Election (v.5), in and through Christ (v.10). Adoption, therefore, is at the very heart of the Gospel, and thus, we believe that adoption should be at the heart of every Christian. In fact, the Bible defines true religion as "to visit orphans and widows in their affliction" (James 1:27).
This does not mean that every believer must adopt, but it does mean that each believer should support adoption efforts within their capacity. This looks like prayers, support for young families, voting for laws that support adoption and end abortion, or giving financially to those pursuing adoption. In our own lives, we both had a desire to adopt even before marriage. In fact, I (Alec) very subtly asked Melissa her thoughts on adoption even before we started dating (she definitely had no clue I was interested!). Over the last couple of years, our love for adoption has only grown as have had the opportunity to build deep relationships with close friends who have adopted. We believe that the Lord is leading us to start the process of international adoption and show the love of Christ as we have been loved by Christ. Though we do not fully understand all the challenges that this experience will bring we anxiously long to enjoy this blessing and bring a child into a Christ-centered family and local church.
So we ask that you would support us in any way that you are able. We eagerly ask for your prayers, and if you feel led to participate with us in pursuing this blessing you can find information about donating here.
